DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was
located near latitude 29.2 North, longitude 165.1 West. Lowell is 
now moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h). A general 
westward motion is forecast for the next day or so. Then, the 
system's forward motion is expected to slow late this week as it 
turns back northwestward. 
 
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) 
with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next 
day or so followed by a brief period of reintensification by the 
end of the week. 
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195 miles (315 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 991 mb (29.27 inches).
