DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

----------------------

At 700 PM CHST...0900 UTC...the center of Typhoon Dolphin was

located near Latitude 13.4 degrees North and Longitude 171.2

degrees East. Dolphin is moving west at 13 mph. It is expected to

make a slight turn toward the west-northwest with little change in

forward speed through Wednesday. Dolphin then looks to pass south

of Wake Island around Thursday as it turns toward the northwest,

moving over the open ocean between Wake and the far northern CNMI

through the end of the week. Typhoon Dolphin is not expected to

impact the Marianas. However, residents of Wake Island should

monitor the progression of Typhoon Dolphin, as an early northwest

turn could bring damaging conditions there.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 85 mph. Dolphin is

forecast to rapidly intensify tover the next few days, possibly

becoming a super typhoon around Thursday night.

Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to

15 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the

center up to 80 miles.

NEXT ADVISORY
