SUMMARY OF 700 PM CHST...0900 UTC...INFORMATION ----------------------------------------------- Location...14.8N 168.0E About 275 miles north-northwest of Utirik About 320 miles south-southeast of Wake About 400 miles north-northwest of Wotje About 420 miles north of Kwajalein About 580 miles north-northwest of Majuro About 1485 miles east of Saipan About 1555 miles east of Guam Maximum sustained winds...140 mph Present movement...west-northwest...300 degrees at 9 mph DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 PM CHST...0900 UTC...the center of Typhoon Dolphin was located near Latitude 14.8 degrees North and Longitude 168.0 degrees East. Dolphin is moving west-northwest at 9 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with a slight increase in forward speed through Thursday, moving over the open ocean between Wake Island and the far northern CNMI through the weekend. Typhoon Dolphin is not expected to pose direct impacts to the Marianas or Micronesia. However, residents of Wake Island should monitor the progression of Typhoon Dolphin, as a northward turn and continued strengthening could bring damaging conditions to the island. Maximum sustained winds remain at 140 mph. Dolphin is forecast to intensify through Thursday, possibly becoming a super typhoon Thursday afternoon or Thursday night. Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 30 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 85 miles.
