WATCHES AND WARNINGS

A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Agrihan and Pagan in the 
CNMI.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Tinian, Saipan, and
Alamagan in the CNMI.

A Typhoon Watch remains in effect for Alamagan in the CNMI.

A Typhoon Warning means that typhoon conditions are expected, 
including winds of 74 mph or more, with tropical storm force winds
beginning within 24 hours. 
A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions, 
including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within 24 hours. 
A Typhoon Watch means that typhoon conditions are possible within
24 hours.

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1100 PM CHST...1300 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Choi-wan
was located near Latitude 17.3 degrees North and Longitude
144.7 degrees East. Choi-wan is nearly stationary to the northwest
of Anatahan, moving west-northwest at 2 mph. It is expected to 
make a turn toward the north-northeast with an increase in forward
speed through Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 70 mph. Choi-wan is
forecast to intensify through Saturday as it continues north-
northeast toward Agrihan, likely becoming a typhoon tonight 
within the next few hours. The latest forecast shows Choi-wan as a
Category 1 Typhoon as it passes Pagan to the west and moves near 
or over Agrihan, Saturday afternoon, and a Typhoon Warning was 
issued for Agrihan and Pagan.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to
255 miles to the south and up to 175 miles to the north.

The next scheduled advisory will be issued by the National
Weather Service at 200 AM ChST early Saturday morning followed by
an intermediate advisory at 500 AM ChST.
